Hotel Owners wake up, the days of raping rally attendees are over!

I say this with reservations as attend the rallies and hate to make any enemies and not be able to get a room myself.  The fact of the matter is the people are feed up with having to pay high hotel fees during a rally event.  I received several emails in response to last month article I wrote about the low attendance of the Daytona Bike Week and that every vacancy sign was light up wherever you looked.  All reports coming out of Daytona stated that attendance and hotel occupancy was down 40%.

While I was at the Laughlin River Run, I ended up spending a lot of time in Vegas and everyone I spoke to complained about the price rapping by the Laughlin hotels.  They now have been booking rooms in Vegas where the competition is fair, and they just take the 2-hour ride into Laughlin to check out the rally.  The word coming out of Laughlin is they too, had vacancy everywhere you looked.  I got one word that there was over 3,000 rooms available.

Just like Vegas, the surrounding areas of Daytona such as Orlando and Sanford are enjoy the growing increase of room booking from and event that is just one hour away.  During the last 3 years the hotel booking are up 50 percent, with a 75 percent being recurring guest.  Do you think the guests are HAPPY?

What does all this mean?  Well I cranked up the calculator and tried to figure out why a hotel would be so greedy and is it really worth it.  Especially when the guests leave your hotel very unhappy and most likely not returning.

Already being a big fan of BIG EAR molded motorcycle ear plugs, when I found out they where close to releasing a custom fitted ear plug adapter that would attach to the Jawbone® Bluetooth headset the BE-JAW adapter, I told Mark and Glenn from BIG EAR I had to get my hands one it as soon as possible.

I have tried several Bluetooth devises with no satisfaction because everyone complained they could not here me clearly, when I would speak.  Then my good friend Larry Seckel turned me on to the Jawbone.  Finally, a product with technology that really worked.  The Jawbone identifies your speech, through a proprietary voice activity sensor, which identifies precisely when you are speaking, in any noise environment. Unlike other headsets, Jawbone can easily separate your speech from other sound nearby.  I actually can whisper and the person on the other end can hear me just as if I was speaking normally.

So why did I need the BIG EAR accessory for a product that works so great?  The damn thing either caused pain behind my ear,

Patrick Navarrette owner of Revolution Apparel woke up on the morning of October 5, 2007 and was frustrated and bothered by the constant unease felling and reticule he had recently been receiving from work in regards to his apparel choice.  You see, prior to last October Patrick owned a reality company and liked to wear Harley-Davidson dress shirts to work.  At one point, he was told that he was not to wear that type of apparel while working with a particular firm.

That morning at 4 AM, a thought entered his mind, “I need to start living my life my way!”  MY LIFE, MY WAY and the phrase stuck.  That very morning My Life My Way became not only a vision but also a mission for Patrick.

Patrick started designing artwork and after enough friends said they wanted a shirt with that phrase, Revolution Apparel developed a men’s line of My Life My Way shirts and hats.  As sales increased so did the request for a female line, which Patrick explained, he just introduced last month.

The catchy name Revolution Apparel has also teamed with a couple charities.  The Avon Breast Cancer Awareness commissioned Patrick to design a shirt and hat with proceeds going to there cause and efforts to fight cancer.  In addition, next week a new shirt to benefit the VFW’s featuring military images and a tribute quote “To those who live their lives in harms way, so I can live “MY LIFE, MY WAY.”

I like the theme and message the line projects, and look forward to their next design.

Good Luck.

The Famous Dragon at Deals Gap!

Dragon at Deals Gap, a motorcyclists dream ride or total nightmare.  Featuring 318 curves in 11 miles, this trail has been billed as America's number one motorcycle and sports car road. In addition, the nearby Cherohala Skyway is quickly becoming number two with its remote 60 miles of scenic mountain highway.

This is a trail I plan to ride this year while at Myrtle Beach.  I have just received a bullet cam form my new sponsor Jones-CAM and should be able to post some incredible video footage of this ride.  Be sure to visit BikerDATA.com’s Video Gallery for complete coverage of both the rally and the ride getting there.

This month I wanted to feature a Tech Tip that could save your life if you plan to travel the back roads on your way to Myrtle Beach.  Remember the old saying, “Motorcycle riders kill themselves in curves and drivers kill motorcycle riders at intersections.  Here is a great article that can help even the most advanced rider.  Please be safe and ride within YOUR limits…

Handling Curves
A better line

By: James R. Davis

Taking curves is rather a personal choice in terms of selection of entry and exit points as well as speed, it seems to me.

For example, the typical advice I have heard from others is to chose an entry point that allows you to make the curve using the smoothest line thru it so that you always have the least lean demand. This, of course, gives you the most ability to compensate your path through the curve should you find a need to do so. It also means that you hit the apex of the curve at about its middle. That is, you enter from the outside edge of the curve, then move towards the inside until you reach its apex, then continue from there outwards until you are once again at the outside of the curve just as you exit it.

Still Smokin
Still Smokin

It has been almost a whole year since I attended the spring Myrtle Beach Rally in 2007, and this restaurant review has been sitting IDLE in my DATAbase waiting for the right time to post it.

I actually spent several hours during the last year trying to decide weather I wanted to “let the cat out of the bag” and share this restaurant with you.  Why you say?  Because it is the best darn seafood restaurant since sliced bread and I want to keep it a secret.  I am being selfish and hate to think that I could be the reason a long line of patrons are waiting outside the front door when I try to get in.

Last year on day five of my visit a friend invited me out for a late night snack.  Most everything shuts down early in Myrtle Beach and this joint is one of the few restaurants that serve’s food late.  We arrived at Rockefellers Raw Bar, where I had previously passed by the last four nights.  You see from the outside you might not pull in because of the rustic appearance and old furnishings.  Have you heard the saying “looks can be deceiving?”

Once seated I was informed by my friend we would be ordering the STEAM POT.  He explained we would be sharing this order and I was in for a meal of a lifetime if I liked crap legs, shrimp, oysters, clams mussels, crawfish, sausage, new potatoes and corn on the cob!
